Sport Injury

Acupuncture is increasingly being used by sports players and athletes to treat musculoskeletal problems. Professional sports teams are also now offering acupuncture to their players both to treat an injury and to keep them performing at their peak level. Many high profile teams have dedicated acupuncturists on board such as the British Rugby team and Premiership football teams.
There are physical and psychological barriers to peak performance. Musculoskeletal pain or dysfunction is addressed with a course of Acupuncture but it also addresses the psychological issues alleviating anxiety and low confidence levels leaving the athletes with a clearer more positive mental state.
Conditions treated:
- Ankle pain
- Achilles tendon injury
- Back pain
- Bursitis
- Hip pain
- Hamstring injury
- Knee pain
- Muscle aches
- Neck strain
- Repetitive strain injury
- Shoulder pain/Frozen shoulder
- Shin splints
- Tennis elbow
- Wrist Pain
Acupuncture decreases inflammation in the local area, it increases blood circulation and releases the bodies own pain killing hormones called endorphins. Local needling is done or if the injured area is too painful distal points (points away from the injury site) are used. These can be just as effective ensuring that the whole treatment is painless and ultimately a deeply relaxing one.
A combination of Acupuncture with cupping, heat, massage or herbs may be used depending on the presentation of the pain/injury. Rehabilitation exercises will also be advised.
