Stress
We are living in a world that expects so much of us consistently-there is literally no let up unless we take a stand. Our bodies are resilient but they are not invincible.
Sustained levels of stress manifest in various signs such as shoulder, neck and back pain, stomach & digestive issues. Our coping mechanism deteriorates, brain fog becomes a frequent happening and our sleep pattern gets disturbed.
This is to mention but a few side effects of the ‘Stress epidemic’ we expose ourselves to on a daily basis.
How can Acupuncture help?
- Acupuncture alleviates the physiological effects of stress by increasing blood flow to the injured region and releasing the bodies own pain relief known as endorphins. These are powerful hormones which effect the brain and the nervous system resulting in relaxation of these systems and overall pain relief.
- Acupuncture alters the brain chemistry by positively effecting our neurotransmitters & neurohormones. This allows the fog to clear and a more rational thought process prevail.
- Acupuncture increases melatonin levels. Melatonin is the sleep inducing hormone we naturally secrete at night time to keep with the normal circadian rhythm of our bodies. When we are subjected to stress this rhythm gets disrupted resulting in alterations to our sleep patterns or insomnia. By correcting these levels Acupuncture can re-establish a normal sleep pattern. A good night sleep will reduce the stress hormone cortisol.
- Acupuncture also treats feelings of anxiety and depression that are so often accompanied by stress. This is done by decreasing the stress hormone cortisol and increasing serotonin our naturally occurring ‘happy hormone’.
The treatment itself induces feelings of deep relaxation and tranquility. Mindfulness techniques may also be used to ensure your body gets the absolute most out of the treatment.
